We propose a form of three-input BitBlt/RasterOp which is useful for pictures constructed in a colour-mapped form as well as in true colour. The model used for this is that of a piece of potentially multicoloured paper on which the picture appears as ink marks. Computationally simple range testing operations can be applied to the source and destination regions to produce many useful effects, some of which we demonstrate. The resulting operations are primitives which can be used to construct more complex operations.
Construction of Interactive Programs in Computer Graphics

In interactive computer graphics, one often finds a gap between sophisticated algorithms, using very high level data structures, and poor methods of program and object construction. Particular programming languages are too readily adopted for solving problems, before a precise specification of the problem to be solved has been formulated.This paper shows that progress can be made by using modern engineering methods to specify and develop graphical software. Two programming techniques are studied here: the algebraic specification of data types and a functional static modular method of problem statement.The paper also discusses these proposals in the context of other modes of computer graphics specification and programming.
Planar Convex Hull Algorithms in Theory and Practice

Sequential and parallel planar convex hull algorithms, their applications and some of the problems encountered on implementations are described. Details of Pascal implementations are given for three of the sequential algorithms: Graham s, Floyd-Eddy and the Approximation method. The programs are compared experimentally.
3D Images of Molecular Properties by Triangulation of Contour Lines

Computer programs have been developed to display molecular properties on a raster scan device, both as 2D colour-filled contour maps and as 3D solid models. Starting from 2D contour values calculated in parallel molecular grids, a triangulation algorithm, based on the connection of contours lying in successive planes, is applied for generating 3D solid models displayed with Gouraud shading. These methods of presentation have proved to be very useful for demonstrating the main features of chemical bonding and molecular reactivity.

The Graphical Kernel System GKS is so well established as a standard for graphics programming that quite a number of models for multiprocessor and distributed environments have already been suggested. It is therefore necessary to consider new languages and methodologies capable of supporting its distributed implementation. In this context, clausal logic languages provide suitable means for describing the system in a declarative form and, moreover, ensure the applicability of meta-programming techniques for specifying the semantics of implementation. The Prolog language, extended with communication and modularization structures required by the distributed programming, is thus here considered as a feasible means for establishing a model of GKS organized in functional modules which could be supported by different processors. For such a model a two-level implementation scheme is outlined and a reconfiguration and personalization methodology is suggested.
